Aaliyah has over 10 years history of advocacy for civil rights and justice for people and families impacted by Mass Incarceration. She joined LSPC in 2005 as Intern Coordinator, then worked as an All of Us or None organizer on Clean Slate Records Expungement Clinics around the State to help people facing discrimination get their records dismissed and apply for pardons and certificates of rehabilitation. She was a 2009-2010 Fellow of the Women’s Policy Institute and worked on an anti-shackling bill for California’s pregnant prisoners, which became law in 2012. Aaliyah has a Paralegal Certification from the University Northern California and makes travel plans for the staff at LSPC. She is currently the coordinator of the Family Unity Project, which advocates for the human rights and empowerment of incarcerated parents, children, family members and people at risk for incarceration.
