LSPC’s Family Unity Project sits at the center of our organizational vision: by protecting parents’ rights, seeking their release, and fighting for the reunification of their families, we unite the struggles for criminal and reproductive justice. We are working in a strategic relationship with Valley State Prison for Women’s Mother-to-Mother Alliance, a group of incarcerated women who support each other in fighting to maintain their parental rights and relationships with their children.
We produce reports and manuals, and present workshops on legal issues about parenting, incarceration and its relationship to the social welfare system. LSPC provides general legal advice and referrals to California prisoners and their loved ones around family law matters, including child custody, visitation and parental rights.
LSPC responds to hundreds of letters from incarcerated women and men requesting general legal advice around child custody, visitation, divorce and other family law matters. We have recently updated our Incarcerated Parents Manual. For more information, see our publications list.
