Staff and Board ChangesIn the past year, we have welcomed new staff and board members, and also said goodbye to some of our comrades in the struggle. Tandrea Madison recently joined LSPC’s staff as Development Assistant. In addition to several years of experience working with All of Us or None, Tandrea brings a background in Journalism and Criminal Justice to her fundraising work – starting with the newsletter you’re holding! Maisha Quint, a 5-year veteran LSPC staffmember, recently took the lead in LSPC's media work as Communications Director. We’re excited about the skills and knowledge Maisha brings to her new role! After 14 years with LSPC, Cassie Pierson will be moving to Louisiana this fall. Cassie started at LSPC in 1994 as a legal intern, and joined the staff as Staff Attorney in 1998. Throughout that time, she has played a crucial role in preparing and updating LSPC’s manuals, responding to the many letters we receive from incarcerated people and their families, advocating with prison administrators on behalf of individual incarcerated women, and moving the work of the Family Unity Project forward. While we’re sad to see her go, we’re happy that Cassie has agreed to continue her work for LSPC part-time from her new home. All of Us or None organizer Sakeenah Robinson also moved to Louisiana this summer. Sakeenah’s involvement with LSPC began over 2 decades ago, when she received legal services from LSPC as an incarcerated mother fighting to keep custody of her children. As a staff member, Sakeenah has played an important role in All of Us or None’s work, and leaves feeling especially proud of her work with the Transitions Clinic and All of Us or None’s voting rights lawsuit. We’ll miss Sakeenah’s conviction, spirit, and smarts at LSPC. LSPC has recently welcomed two new board members: Keith Wattley, an attorney in private practice, and Shireen Malekafzali, Program Associate with PolicyLink. In addition, board members Marlene Sanchez and Cynthia Martin have stepped up as board co-chairs. All of us at LSPC extend our deep thanks to Millard Murphy for his years of dedication as board chair; Millard continues on as a member of the board. In the past year, we have also said goodbye to staff member Patrice Douglass and board member Manish Vaidya. We thank them for their contributions to LSPC, and wish them well in their continued work for social justice. |
