Family Unity Project launches

With the goal of promoting the health and well-being of families and communities impacted by incarceration, LSPC has launched a new component, called the Family Unity Project.

This work unites three of LSPC’s projects: the Family Advocacy Network (FAN), Prison Family Work and the Family Rights Project.

The Family Advocacy Network (FAN) allows family members of women incarcerated in California to find support and healing.

LSPC’s staff attorney is responsible for overseeing Prison Family Work, which includes updating and revising LSPC manuals, holding workshops/seminars for prisoners, corresponding with prisoners regarding child custody, visitation and support questions and maintaining contact with women in CPMP/FFP facilities to ensure that the women and their families are receiving constitutionally appropriate care and treatment.

The Family Rights Project continually works to reform the Adoption and Safe Families Act (ASFA) as well as state laws regarding the termination of parental rights.
