Overview of Grievances

Disabled, terminally diagnosed and seriously ill women prisoners are suffering daily abuses and living in grotesquely inhumane conditions at a central valley on-site prison medical facility. The Paris Lamb Treatment Center is a skilled nursing facility (SNF) located at the Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla and for years has provided substandard care to its incarcerated residents. Intolerable conditions have prompted prisoners and outside advocacy groups to file complaints with the Department of Health Services resulting in an ongoing investigation of the facility that is still in process. Despite DHS intervention, abuses continue and include:

  • Verbal and physical abuse
  • Lack of basic hygiene care including clean clothes and sheets, and assistance bathing
  • Emergency calls buttons ignored
  • Lockdowns of up to 20 hours a day
  • No antibiotics and pain meds for post-op residents
  • Patients forced to change their own bandages
  • Denial of food, water, and ice
  • Limited access to visitors
  • No access to any regular prison programs
  • Retaliation for speaking out
